We are a parent participation, play based preschool based in the heart of Lynn Valley. We provide children with an environment that develops their social, intellectual, creative and motor skills.

The school year runs from September until the end of June, with breaks over the Christmas holidays and Spring Break in March.

New for the 2021-22 school year! We are now pleased to offer longer class times. Find out more about how parent participation works and consider making LVPPP your preschool.

The Teachers

LVPPP is lucky to have three teachers who bring to the classroom a passion and creativity that makes our preschool a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Simona Scoffone

Simona is our certified ECE supervisor with a passion for child development, and a love for play-based and child-centered approach. Simona believes in the importance of focusing on the children’s unique strengths to support them becoming confident individuals. Simona aims to create a safe, loving environment for the children to freely explore and learn. Her passion for the field has led her to further her studies, and she is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care through the University of Victoria. Simona has worked with children and families for over a decade, and all over the world. In her free time, you’ll find her adventuring on the North Shore trails, either running, hiking or skiing.

Katie James

Katie is our Early Childhood Educator Assistant. Her teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in a play-based approach to learning – Katie is a true believer of learning taking place anywhere and at anytime. Katie has a BA from Simon Fraser University and a B.Ed from the University of British Columbia. She has spent the last several years as an early language interventionist in a language development centre in Vancouver. Katie hopes to bring new energy to our school with her love of bugs, her love of silly dancing and her love of teaching both inside and outside of the classroom. When Katie isn’t working, you’ll find her spending time with friends and family, going on adventures and playing any sport.

Elizabeth Reid

Elizabeth (Liz) is an award-winning educator with over four decades of experience at parent participation preschools. She keeps trying to retire but the children won’t let her! You’ll find her at the helm of our local nature walks, kicking a soccer ball in the nearby field, getting out the power tools for an art project or helping the kids grow plants. She’s a proponent of the play-based approach and aims to instil a sense of wonder and curiosity in each child. Through her fun and playful style, she encourages the children to learn self expression and we are delighted that she continues to bring her fantastic creativity to our school.

The Facility

LVPPP is situated in the original Lynn Valley school house. We are fortunate to have this historical landmark as a permanent home. The two-story building has high ceilings and huge windows for lots of natural light and a sense of space.  LVPPP has an impressive collection of toys, learning materials and large muscle apparatus. Children are exposed to a great variety of resources selected for both their educational and play value.

Outdoor play is an important part of our curriculum and LVPPP is privileged to have a spacious outdoor space equipped with an age-appropriate playground, and space for activities such as sand play, mud kitchen, water play, and even a track for bike riding. Weather permitting, indoor activities may also be brought outside such as painting, imaginary play, and art of various kinds.

Parent Participation

We’re one of the few remaining parent participation preschools on the North Shore. This unique model gives you an opportunity to engage in your child’s preschool experience and connect with other local families. Parents help in the running of the preschool and assist the teacher in the classroom once or twice a month.

Social and fun events are a regular part of the preschool calendar. If making incredible memories and being part of a dynamic community of local families appeals to you, then you should consider our preschool. Find out more about how a parent participation preschool works here.
