Parent Education

In a Parent Participation Preschool, parents act as teaching assistants (aka ‘duty parents’) once or twice a month and have some responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of the children.

In order for parents to act as assistants in the classroom, licensing requires parents to complete monthly Parent Education sessions. These sessions are 90 minutes and are on the the first Wednesday of the month from 7-8:30 pm.

When asked, current and alumni parents really value the Parent Education sessions. Many people look back on Parent Education as one of the best aspects of preschool. These sessions help you to better understand yourself and your child. This is also a time of community building. Before and after there’s always lots of chatter and catching up with other parents. It’s a fun social time!

The criteria for Parent Education Sessions is anything relevant and useful to parents of preschoolers.  Topics may include:

  • The importance of play & making friends
  • Brain development
  • Emotional growth
  • Behaviour challenges
  • Positive discipline techniques
  • Anger management
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Nurturing imagination and learning
  • Supporting literacy
  • Health and nutrition, etc.

Please contact the Parent Education Chair with topics that interest you or if you have a speaker to recommend.
