The proclamation of Indonesian independence on 17 August 1945 marked the end of around 350 years of colonial occupation. In an hour-long tour, one of our guides will show you what happened during this turbulent period in the history of Indonesia, the Netherlands and the world.

The people of Indonesia took their fate into their own hands and fought for their freedom against Dutch colonial rule, a struggle that would last until the end of 1949. The exhibition and this tour spotlight this endeavour, which has many faces and voices. You will see crucial moments in the conflict, follow eyewitnesses who experienced the revolution first-hand, and be inspired to empathize with the complexity of this struggle for independence.
